Nestlé today announced the launch of Nestlé Zambia Trading Company as it continues to strengthen its foothold in Equatorial Africa region.

The company which was incorporated on February 1st 2010 is headed by Country Manager and MD Yuriy Demkovych. It received licenses from the Zambian authorities in March 2010 and started operations in October 2010.

Through the USD2million investment spread over the period 2010-2012, Nestlé expects to expand its existing distribution channel in major cities across the country. Over the same period, Nestlé expects to increase its work force which stands at 24 employees at the moment.

Region Head and CEO of Nestlé Equatorial Africa Region, Pierre Trouilhat, said: “Nestlé is committed to unlocking the business opportunities and to promote growth of our market in Zambia. Since its establishment in 2010, we have witnessed remarkable potential, which we are now responding to by increasing our investment. By investing in distribution channels in Zambia, we get closer to our consumers and can better understand their needs.”

Mr. Trouilhat said Nestlé’s strategy in Zambia will be based on a specific business model that supports local distribution of its products and will be hinged on its Popularly Positioned Products strategy and Nutrition.

“Through this approach we will extend our products offerings to lower income consumers by bringing to the Zambian people relevant and good quality products at affordable prices. Our aim globally has been to offer high nutritional value food at low prices and in smaller, more affordable pack sizes.”

The launch of Nestlé Zambia Trading Company is a continuation of the company’s investment plan in the Equatorial Africa Region. Last year Nestlé S.A. announced an investment of 150 million CHF in this region spread over three years which will go into building news factories in Angola, Mozambique, and the Democratic Republic of Congo and refurbishing of two existing factories in Kenya and Zimbabwe.

Mr. Trouilhat noted that under its ‘Creating Shared Value’ principle Nestlé is keen on identifying projects in Zambia that would add value to both the company, the community and to its shareholders.

“At Nestlé we recognize that our success depends on creating value for people – from our suppliers, to our employees, to our consumers and the communities where we operate.”
