Nestlé, the world's leading nutrition, health and wellness company, has re-launched its popular hot chocolate beverage, MILO®, now fortified with its proprietary formula; Actigen-E.
Speaking at a media briefing to unveil the new product, Managing Director of Nestlé Kenya, Hakan Misri said the launch of MILO® fortified with Actigen-E was a continuation of the Ksh2.37 billion (CHF 30 million) capital investments set aside to improve Nestlé Kenya’s operations announced by Nestlé Global Chief Executive Officer Paul Bulcke in July last year.
“Nestlé S.A. announced a CHF 150 million investment for the Equatorial African Region over the next three years out of which CHF 30 million has been set aside for Kenya. The launch of the new MILO® with Actigen-E today is the fruit of this investment package which we know will help us bring to our Kenyan consumers options which they will be interested in at affordable prices,” said Mr Misri.
He continued, “We are proud to launch the new MILO® fortified with Actigen E. At Nestlé our endeavour has always been to extend health and wellness to our consumers at affordable costs, without compromising on the taste,” said Mr Misri. And we constantly evaluate our product portfolio to improve them in terms of quality, packaging and pricing.”
A popular product in the Kenyan market, MILO® has continuously performed well since its introduction in 1967. The new MILO® has been fortified with Actigen-E which promotes the optimal release of energy from food consumed during the day. It has also been fortified with B-vitamins and key minerals such as iron, magnesium, calcium and Vitamin B complex.
“We hope our consumers across the region will enjoy the smooth taste of our new product. We have put emphasis on taste, convenience and affordability. The product now comes in different contemporary and attractive packaging and sizes to accommodate different classes of consumers in Kenya and Equatorial African Region,” said Mr Misri.
He continued: “One of the unique nutritional benefits of the new MILO® with Actigen-E is that it will help consumers, particularly children to receive sufficient nutrients from their daily food intake and give them the energy they need to enjoy an active lifestyle.”
Actigen-E contains unique combinations of eight vitamins and four minerals, which are high in magnesium and enriched with Vitamin B, C and calcium, which optimise the conditions for the release of energy from macronutrients in food.
As part of its promotional programme, MILO® has partnered with top Kenyan athletes Ezekiel Kemboi and Janeth Jepkosgei who will be MILO® brand ambassadors.
“These athletes have been selected for their champion status in the Kenyan sports arena. They will be our brand ambassadors as we carry our School sampling and sports sponsorships for the next 2 years,” he said.
MILO was developed in the 1930s during the depression when many children were not receiving enough nutrients from their daily diet. Thomas Mayne, a NESTLÉ Industrial Chemist, created the nutritious beverage using local milk knowledge and Swiss cocoa expertise.
The name MILO was based on a Greek mythical character MILON, who was known for his strength. In 1934 MILO was launched in Australia at the Sydney Royal Easter show.
It has long been known as an energy beverage strongly associated with sports and good health. The product was introduced into the Kenyan market in 1967 and is among the top 5 brands in Kenya.
