Nestlé Volunteer Programmes provide all employees the opportunity to engage and assist local communities.
While encouraged, it is voluntary. The progammes support the needs of local communities based on our CSV pillars of:
- Rural Development
In Kenya, one the initiatives Nestlé EAR Head Office employees support is Tuele Kenya. This is a children’s home in Loitoktok in the Eastern part of Kenya. As part of the employee volunteer initiatives, the company has donated computers and Nestlé products while employees have donated foodstuff, books, clothing and visit to the home during the weekends.
Last year, Nestlé EAR donated 2 greenhouses and a water tank to enable the Teule community to get a source of additional income to meet their daily needs. Employees from EAR Head office attended the inauguration event that was held on Saturday 25th January, 2014.
The employees joined the children and staff during the inauguration and in addition, they played various games with the children, visited their dormitories and had lunch with them. They also had a chance to talk to the children and offered to continue supporting the home and guide them in their careers.
One of the key items they felt the home needed soon were mattresses, blankets and bed sheets for the children’s dormitories. Those who visited the home promised to encourage their colleagues to donate these items which can then be delivered to Teule Kenya.
