Nestlé supports flood aid effort in Mozambique.

Nestlé is working with the International Red Cross in Mozambique to help more than 200,000 families affected by floods in the country. 

The company is donating over 450,000 litres of bottled water and more than 10 tonnes of Nido fortified milk powder to people in the region.

Severe floods recently hit South and Central Mozambique as a result of torrential rain in South Africa and Zimbabwe.

In the Mozambique capital of Maputo, several bridges, roads and schools have been seriously damaged.

 

Distribution of supplies

Diogo Victoria, Managing Director of Nestlé Mozambique, will present supplies to the Red Cross in the cities of Xai-Xai and Quelimane, at an official event.

Nestlé trucks will transport the bottled water to areas in Gaza province, while the milk powder supplies will be distributed to people in Zambezia province.

Basic food kits including water, rice, maize flour, oil, sugar and soap will also be provided.

 

Personal donations

Nestlé employees in Mozambique will also be donating clothing, shoes and school material to the International Red Cross in the country.

The employees have not been directly affected by the floods.

Nestlé Mozambique provides hope to local people of Dondo

Nestlé Mozambique officially handed over 22 new houses worth USD 4 million to families in the Municipality of Dondo in Sofala Province towards the provision of affordable and decent housing to local residents.

The handover ceremony took place on November 24,2012 and was presided over by the President of the Municipality of Dondo, Mr. Manuel Camebzo and Nestlé Mozambique, Country Manager, Diogo Victoria.

The resettlement program in the Municipality of Dondo is part of our Creating Shared Value (CSV) program which is a model which encourages organization to create economic and social value by focusing on the social issues that each is uniquely capable of addressing. 

CSV underpins our corporate business strategy –creating value for its shareholders while at the same time creating value for society, particularly for the communities in which it company operates. 

Through this initiative, our company seeks to partnerin the economic development and improving the standards of living of people by offeringaffordable housing to the Municipality of Dondo.

For Nestlé, this is just the beginning of a long-lasting relationship and our commitment to Rural development under CSV which will see us provision for decent and affordable housing in the area.

The President of the Municipality of Dondo, Mr. Manuel Camebzo said the housing project by Nestlé will go a long way towards reducing poverty levels in the Municipality and thanked the local community for their hard-work and resolve during the entire duration of the project .
