Milk Tart – Base

Ingredients:

  1. 100g butter
  2. ½ cup sugar
  3. 1 egg, beaten
  4. 2 cups cake flour
  5. 1 tsp baking powder
   

Filling

Ingredients:

  1. 8 eggs
  2. 1 can (397g) Nestlé Sweetened Condensed Milk
  3. 4 cups water
  4. ½ tsp cardamom
  5. 1 tsp vanilla essence
  6. 5 dessert spoons butter

Method:

  1. To make base: cream butter and sugar well. 
  2. Add beaten egg. 
  3. Mix in flour and baking powder. 
  4. Knead into a soft dough.
  5. Line a large, deep oblong casserole dish. 
  6. Refrigerate while you make the filling.
  7. Beat eggs well. Beat in Nestlé Sweetened Condensed Milk.
  8. Add water, cardamom and vanilla essence, and beat well.
  9. Pour over base.
  10. Drop 5 dessert spoons of butter into filling.
  11. Bake at 180°C for 40-50 min.

Tip:

If preferred, sprinkle with fine cinnamon in place of cardamom.  Cool completely before cutting into squares.
