MILOÒ Commits Kshs 5 Million For The National Primary School Ball Games
Nestlé Kenya, through its leading MILOÒ brand has announced its sponsorship for this year’s Kenya Primary School Ball Games to the tune of KShs. 5 Million. The Games are scheduled to take place in Bungoma this month from June 19th to 21st, 2013.
The company also committed to extend its partnership with the Ministry of Education towards providing support for the Primary Schools Games with the focus being on Football.
Nestlé announced the sponsorship package partnership with the Ministry of Education and the Kenya Primary Schools Sports Association (KPSSA), which will cover the provision of playing kits to participating teams, track suits to games officials, balls, trophies, medals, certificates, T-shirts among other items.
Speaking during the announcement, Svetlana Obruchkova, Managing Director Nestlé Kenya, said “the MILOÒ sponsorship for the upcoming Kenya Primary National Ball games will go towards the development of sport at the primary level. As a company, we believe that sport plays a part in setting the foundation for a child’s future. It is through participating in sports that children learn how to persevere, find courage, overcome challenges, engage in team work and believe in one-self.”
The Nestlé MD added that the MILOÒ partnership underscored the brand’s commitment to sporting activities that teach positive values, shaping our children to become the well-grounded adults of the future.
This year’s national ball games will bring together a total of 1400 boys and girls from across the 47 counties.
The Primary School games which earlier kicked off at the district level will now be staged regionally. Nairobi province has been transformed to Nairobi Metropolitan region, Nyanza into Lake region, Rift Valley to Nakuru region, Coast to Mombasa region, Central to Aberdares region, Western to Nzoia region, North Eastern to Garissa region and Eastern Province to Northern region.
The Education Secretary, Ministry of Education, Enos Oyaya said his Ministry’s ultimate vision is to help identify and nurture talent right from the grassroots level through the National Primary School games, thereby, providing children with an opportunity to discover and realize their dreams in life.
“As a Ministry, we place very strong emphasis on the development of sports. We believe that sporting activities play a pivotal role in complementing the formal curriculum and the national goals of education. Through these games, pupils have an opportunity to compete against each other, socialize and learn from each other. These activities promote the educational goal of national unity,” he added.
Apart from the local sports sponsorship, Nestlé has sponsored the MILOÒ African Primary Schools Championships, including the 2010 edition held in South Africa, and the 2012 edition held in Ghana. For both editions, winning teams from Kenya participated in the Championships.
