On October 30, 2015, Nestlé Mozambique employees volunteered their time and love at the District of Hulene B to children in the sixth grade of the Imaculada Primary School. The school is located a few meters from the trash deposit in Maputo
The purpose of the day was to create 13 nutritional gardens at the school and most importantly, creating a new interest to students on gardening. The team was able to offer the necessary tools such as watering cans, rakes, axes etc.
One of the teachers who will be responsible for maintaining the gardens, was offered basic training on agriculture.
With the help of Helpo, the team set up other activities with the children such as physical exercises, stories telling, creative designs, crosswords, knowledge of healthy foods and balanced diet, the war between candy and fruits etc.
In this first phase of the visit, we managed to plant strawberries, basil, chives, carrot, eggplant, cauliflower, pumpkin and lettuce.
We believe these children have a lot of potential and the enthusiasm on that day was enormous on both sides.
After our distribution of fruits to all students from first to seventh grade, we left the school with many friends and we hope to return soon.
