Harare commemorates the World Day for Safety and Health at Work

May 8, 2015

On Friday 8 May, several organisations and industries took to the streets of Harare CBD and joined in a colourful march to commemorate the World Day of Safety and Health at Work hosted by the National Social Security Authority (NSSA).

The procession was led by drum majorettes and the signal army band under the theme for this year “Building and Maintaining a Culture of Prevention in Occupational Health and Safety.” The Factory Manager joined the 10 SHE Representatives dressed in the beautiful “I make Nestle Safe” t-shirt. The occasion was graced by the Minister of Public Service, Labour and Social, the International Labour Organisation (ILO) President, the President of the Employers’ Confederation of Zimbabwe (EMCOZ) and the Mayor of Harare. The key message was to prevent occupational accidents and illnesses in industries by creating a safety culture. The baton was given to the SHE practitioners to carry the message back and implement the programs and activities required to build and maintain that culture of prevention.
